Some of my favorite hobbies include:
- Spending time with my family and pets
- Enjoying the outdoors
- Cuddling up on the couch and reading a mystery novel
- Volunteering at my local library
A few facts about myself is that I am the oldest of 4 children, and I have a miniature schnauzer named Romeo and a German Shepard named Elsie. I also have an adopted virtual pet lion named Simba who loves getting treats!
This blog will be all about creativity and expressing yourself through writing. I would love to get to know my visitors.
Please introduce yourself and let me know your favorite hobbies.
Dear Miriam,
ReplyDeleteAs your former third grade teacher, I am exceedingly proud to see you promoting blogging and quality writing! I have a smile a mile wide!
You asked for introductions, so I will tell you a little about myself. I have been an elementary school teacher for 31 years. Each year I love it more. The technology tools that are being developed for education fascinate me. Looking for ways to integrate digital learning in meaningful ways is a passion for me.
A hobby that I enjoy is fly fishing. This summer I hope to fish in several rivers and lakes and catch many a trout! Standing in the rushing river surrounded by the peacefulness of nature, I am filled with joy!
What is a summer hobby you enjoy?
Warmly,
Mrs. Y♥llis
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
DeleteI am so excited to have you as my first commenter just like on my blog from 3rd grade! I am excited to learn from you about the novel technology you have integrated into your classroom besides blogging.
It's so hot in our area that one of my favorite hobbies is to jump into the pool and play with water-balloons. Also, now that I drive, I can now take myself to the beach anytime to boogie board or surf.
I look forward to seeing photos from your summer adventures!
Best,
♥Miriam♥
Dear Miriam,
ReplyDeleteWhat a joy to see you back blogging after all this time.
Mrs Yollis actually showed me your very first blog post from 2011 and my former student Bianca and her mum AA were some of your first commenters! I'm thrilled to hear you're back in touch with Bianca too. Blogging brings people together.
As you know, I'm a primary school teacher but I'm only teaching part time at the moment. I have a 5yo girl and 3.5 year old boy at home. I also do some work for Edublogs and run the Student Blogging Challenge.
Funnily enough, one of my hobbies is blogging. When I can make time, I work on posts and resources for teachers on my own blog. I also love getting outdoors and running, hiking, or taking my children for a bike ride.
I've just published this week's Student Blogging Challenge post and given you a shout out! https://studentchallenge.edublogs.org/2018/11/04/same-different/
Kind regards,
Kathleen Morris
Dear Ms. Morris,
DeleteThank you so much visiting my blog and for your shoutout on the Student Blogging Challenge! I am really glad that I was able to reconnect with the blogging community especially with BB and her mum AA. It seems like yesterday that I was just starting out blogging and getting to know everyone.

Hi, Miriam!
ReplyDeleteThat's great to see that you have continued the blogging you started in third grade!
I am a public librarian, and I'm happy to hear that you volunteer your time to your local library to help coordinate the Creative Writer's Club. My library is Commack Library on Long Island in New York State. Where is your library?
One of my favorite hobbies is also reading mystery novels. Do you have a favorite author?
Sincerely,
Mrs. Wohlafka
Mentor for Student Blogging Challenge
Dear Mrs. Wohlafka,
DeleteThank you so much for taking the time to leave me a comment. I am having fun getting back into blogging after taking a couple years off. I love going to my local library called the Calabasas Library in California. Is their a creative writer's club in your library? It is definitely a fun way for high school/college volunteers and children to connect. I assist with our programs for children in our library such as a summer reading program.
Mystery novels are my favorite genre's to read. My favorite author is Agatha Christie as she and Poirot never disappoint. I haven't read anything else quite like her novels. Its a nice break from the heavy college textbooks. Do you have any suggestions of other mystery authors?
Best,
♥Miriam♥
P.S. It is my dream to visit New York sight see the city. Maybe when I'll get the opportunity to visit, I'll stop by and check out your library :)
Hi, Miriam!
DeleteUnfortunately my library does not have a creative writer's club, but it sounds like a great idea! That's great that you assist with the summer reading program. Is your library part of the collaborative summer reading program that is doing "A Universe of Stories" this coming summer?
I really enjoy Agatha Christie's novels, too! Being a native Norwegian, I read a lot of Norwegian mysteries, in both Norwegian and English. I like Jo Nesbø, whose books have been translated into English.
If you visit New York, I'd love for you to visit my library!
I JUST WENT ON YOUR LIBRARY WEBSITE TO SEE WHERE CALABASAS IS, AND I SAW THAT THE WHOLE CITY IS UNDER EVACUATION SINCE YESTERDAY EVENING BECAUSE OF THE WOOLSEY FIRE! If possible, please let us know how you are doing during the evacuation and when you return!
Best,
Mrs. Wohlafka
Week 6 STUBC Commenter
Hi Mrs. Wohlafka,
DeleteI am really sorry but I must have missed your comment when I went to reply! The fire was really close to my house but thankfully my neighborhood was spared. Unfortunately, many homes and families were not as lucky as I was and I hope that these families will have a fresh start now that it is 2019.
I will definitely have to check out Jo Nesbo's books. Thank you so much for visiting, and I hope you have a Happy New Year!
Best,
Miriam
Welcome to the blogosphere, Miriam, or should I say, "Welcome Back," since you obviously spent your third grade year blogging. I am so glad the Student Blogging Challenge email told us to visit. I look forward to reading more from you. If you'd like another way to expand your blog following, I encourage you to check out Two Writing Teachers. The weekly Slice of Life is a way to get more of an audience. The March Daily Slice is the Olympic event. Best of luck to you.
ReplyDeleteHi Ms. Emerson,
DeleteThank you so much for leaving me a comment. I am really excited to get back into blogging after taking a break for a couple of years. Its a bit different the second time as now I am doing it more as an educational tool for my students rather than sharing my life. The Two Writing Teachers blog is quite interesting especially the weekly Slice of Life. Maybe one day when I become a teacher I'll be able to add to the discussion.
Best,
♥Miriam♥
Hello from Portugal,
ReplyDeleteI'm a Portuguese teacher of English as a Foreign language who also loves blogging - and believe it or not, your template is the one I chose for my very first blog.
Besides blogging, I love implementing new free web 2.0 tools in my classes and, obviously, reading.
I'll keep an eye on this new endeavour of yours and wish you all the luck; in case you are curious to have a look at what I read and do, please access https://www.instagram.com/teacheralexduarte/ and https://padlet.com/teacheralex_dua/myreadings.
Greetings from cold and rainy Portugal,
Alexandra
Hi Alexandra,
DeleteThank you so much for taking the time to leave me a comment. This was also the template I chose for my first blog. Something about it gives a warm and welcoming feel.
I love what you are doing with the padlet blog. I love to read and am always struggling to find books that interest me and your blog is the perfect resource. One of my favorite books on your list is To Kill a Mockingbird. Scout is my favorite character as her innocence and the way the author writes the story from her perspective adds something special to the book. I noticed that most of the books you review are in English. Are there famous Portuguese authors that you recommend? Perhaps they have been translated into English. Is English the most popular second language? or is it Spanish?
Can any blogger add book reviews?
Best,
♥Miriam♥
Hi Miriam,
DeleteI always buy original versions, mostly online, and my book reviewing is a way of keeping track of my readings :) And, yes, anyone can add reviews and yours will be very welcome (as any other!)
English has long been the most popular second language with more and more students sitting for Cambridge exams every year. In spite of the neighbour language being indeed Spanish, in Portugal, English is much more widely taught/learned..
In what concerns Portuguese authors, I'd highly recommend you Fernando Pessoa. He wrote a lot in English and much of what he wrote in Portuguese has also been translated into English.
Feel free to get back to me whenever you wish and do post your review(s) in my padlet.
Best wishes,
Alexandra
Hi Miriam,
ReplyDeleteIt's Mrs. Kimball from A.E.Wright...right in your home neighborhood.
I can certainly tell that you love to write and create!
Your posts are well written. I especially like your Veteran's Day post. It is so very important to remember the men and women who fought and fight for our country. You might know that on our campus we hold a VD assembly where we honor local veterans. We usually have a speaker or two and then provide brunch for them. Sometimes we write letters as you have suggested in your post.
I look forward to reading more of your posts!

Hi Mrs. Kimball,
DeleteThank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. It's so cool that I get a visitor right from my hometown. I actually went to the other middle school A.C. Stelle so I am not familiar with the Veteran's Day assembly your school holds but I think it is really great that your school is able to honor veterans. The students in the writer's club I run, wrote the most adorable things on their letters to the veterans. I really enjoyed reading them I hope that they put a smile on someone's face. I hope your students have a great school year!
Best,
♥Miriam♥
